Members enjoy a rich menu of benefits and organizational affiliation with the flexibility of maintaining their own identity.
Access to advanced training and certification by highly-trained authorities in is cornerstone to membership with SDBR.
Moreover, SDBR’s unique approach allows members to directly receive senior mentoring for technical growth and promotional advancement.
- Representation by internationally-recognized, highly-trained authorities in traditional martial arts
- Certification and evaluation for independent martial arts teachers and individuals
- Extensive and comprehensive training by senior instructors across multiple disciplines, including advanced training, private consultation, and invitations to SDBR seminars and gasshakus
- Authenticity with direct lineage to the founders of their ‘Ryu’ (style)
- Flexible for group and individual memberships and compatible with existing system/style affiliations
Membership Approach
SDBR holds the highest of standards within the organization, the traditional martial arts we represent, and for our members.
All new group representatives and individual members are required to meet in-person with either an SDBR Director or an SDBR Regional Representative prior to completing the application process.
This ensures a mutual relationship that maintains SDBR's standards and that meets each member's expectations.
Upon becoming a member, a personal development plan is discussed towards these goals, including certification and examination schedules, curriculum and rank requirements, and training objectives.
There are many opportunities to attend an SDBR event throughout each year, including:
- Attend an official SDBR seminar or gasshaku

Host an SDBR Director or SDBR Regional Representative in your area for a training seminar or gasshaku
- Request an in-person interview with an SDBR Director or SDBR Regional Representative at their location
Application Steps
The application process is designed to best ensure that each member receives the benefits they are seeking.
The application begins with a conversation to discuss your needs, objectives, constraints, goals, and how SDBR may play a role in your achievements.
Following your first participation in an SDBR event, your application may be submitted to your SDBR Director or SDBR Regional Representative.
- Contact an SDBR Director or SDBR Regional Representative to discuss your needs and objectives
- Participate in an SDBR seminar, gasshaku, or in-person interview
- Submit a completed application package through your SDBR Director or SDBR Regional Representative, including:
- SDBR Membership Application
- Copies of relevant rank certifications and/or organization affiliation
- Passport-style photo (e.g., 2 x 2 inch [3.5 x 4.5 cm] with full face from shoulders to top of head)
Upon acceptance, membership is maintained in an active status as renewed by the member for each calendar year.
Registration forms may be found online and submitted via email or post mail.
